What do I do if I want to Surrender my Pet?

We at Animal Rescue League understand that sometimes there are challenges in your relationship with your pet or that sometimes life changes and your pet may no longer be able to live with you. Thankfully, many of these challenges can be addressed – and often solved – with the right intervention. Prior to making the decision to surrender, please read troubleshooting ideas under our information section or contact us at animalhavenrescue@gmail.com. Please relay information regarding type of animal, age, medical considerations, vet records and situation to determine possible solutions to surrender if possible. We encourage you to consider alternatives to surrendering before booking a surrender appointment.

Pets are accepted by appointment.
The following needs to be completed:
  • Email animalhavenrescue@gmail.com to schedule an appointment to surrender your pet.
  • Print and complete the surrender questionnaire (located at bottom of page)
  • Have a recent copy of your pet’s vet records (within 1 year) and proof of ownership for your animal (licensing records, proof of microchip/tattoo, etc.)
  • Surrender fee, as listed below. The cost to care for and re-home pets can be hundreds of dollars for each animal. We ask for a surrender fee to help subsidize this cost. The fee is non-refundable.

Due to high demand we may have to place your name on a waiting list; all owner surrenders are considered by a case to case basis depending on availability of a foster home and the situation.

Surrender Fees:
Animal Haven is a not for profit organization and we depend entirely upon donations and fundraising in order to care for the animals who are surrendered to us. We are responsible for veterinary costs as well as expenditures incurred for food, cat litter, bedding, kennels and other supplies necessary to properly look after an animal. To assist with these expenses we collect a minimal surrender fees and also accept donations when an animal is surrendered into our care. A tax receipt can be given for this donation upon request.

Cats/Kittens: $20

Dogs/Puppies: $50-75
